| Japans for once started to smoke less because cigarettes have risen in priceApril 24, 2012 Newswire "Dzidzi Press" informs that for the first time, according to statistics that is kept since 1990 in last fiscal year Japan population has bought less than 200 billion cigarettes. To be more precise, only 197.5 billions cigarettes, i.e. approximately 4 cigarettes a day for each Japanese, including small children and non-smoking adults. Fall of the index as compared to previous reporting period has made 6 %. At the same time, thanks to price increase on Japan cigarettes, monetary volume of cigarettes sales has grown by 13.6 % making more than 4 trillion yen. Such profit wasn't noticed for seven years now. Tobacco consumption reduction is connected not only with the fact that after price increase many people have just quitted smoking but also with the fact that two huge tobacco plants in Tohoku and Kanto were closed after accident on nuclear power plant "Fukushima". Speculations and fears that cigarettes can be infected with radiation have also furthered aversion of Japan people to "Japan Tobacco" products. |
