No-nicotine cigarettes were launched for those who quit smoking
January 16, 2012
One more application for genetically modified tobacco was found by researchers from North Caroline (USA) on which address came first 45 thousand cartons of cigarettes for war with smoking.
Cigarettes, of course, are not usual. Experimental tobacco with which smokes are filled contains by 97 % less nicotine, than usual, providing full saving of original flavor and aroma to which smokers get used.
Tobacco is produced by Company from Massachusetts State that owns 98 patents on genetic manipulation with tobacco plant with the goal of increasing or reducing nicotine content in tobacco products. Nine millions of low-nicotine cigarettes were purchased for research purposes. The brand is named "Spectrum" and is presented in 8 types with various nicotine content: from 3 % to 100 % of alkaloid that contains popular tobacco brand Marlboro Gold.
Approximately 500 smokers during half of the year will test extra-light cigarettes "Spectrum". Medics intend to find out whether low-nicotine tobacco products providing smooth lowering of the strength are able to help quitting smoking to those who needs it.
It is impossible to fully prohibit nicotine according to American laws. But to make its' content in cigarettes minimal - is practically the main task for tobacco manufacturers. If "Spectrum" proves its value, Company from Massachusetts will make a fortune. For Philip Morris envy, that have launched recently super-light cigarettes and considered them unprofitable. They have hurried up.
