| Japan will complicate smokers lifeJanuary 24, 2011 Japan authorities intend to toughen smoking rules. However, officials deny that it is planned to introduce ban on smoking in public places. Japan authorities can toughen even more smoking rules in public places but whole ban for smoking in hospitals, government agencies and public transport is not planned in the nearest future. Earlier Japan TV-Company NHK informed that authorities can introduce such a ban already in April. At present moment it is allowed to smoke in public places only in special rooms. "The only thing is for sure - we are trying to rewrite regulations of the law in such a way - to make it more specific for non-smokers" - representative of country Ministry of Health declared. Also, he has added that the agency is actually examining the report, made by group of experts in which they advise to make public places wholly non-smoking in future. According to statutory wording in action non-smoking employees should be protected from tobacco smoke. This statement, in principle allows either to allocate special premises for smoking or to prohibit it inside at all. Ministry plans to amend statutory wording in order to draw more attention to protection of non-smokers from tobacco smoke. As compared to such countries as France, Ireland and Italy where for the last years smoking in public places, including bars and restaurants was prohibited under the threat of big fine, Japan legislation remains generally, quite liberal. |
