| How Britain teenagers get cigarettes?November 29, 2010 Teenagers and youth of Foggy Albion continue to get smoke in spite of stiffening of legislation in country directed against smoking. Research made by English scientists allows determining methods with help of which teenagers become possessor of cherished packs. Boys and girls that haven't reached respective age, either buy tobacco products from mini markets where salespersons are not so severe or ask other buyers to acquire for them cigarettes. Researchers from University of Liverpool were able to "disclose" those methods with help of which young people of the country that don't have rights to acquire tobacco products, however managed to provide themselves with cigarettes. In 2007 in Great Britain has been passed law that has increased age plank for acquiring tobacco products from 16 to 18 years old. However, in spite of this, quantity of smoking teenagers in country hasn't decreased at all, although during interrogations youth has informed about difficulties that appear during cigarettes purchase. Scientists have invited for participation in research 85 senior high school students, half of which were regular smokers and have interrogated them about ways of getting so much desired cigarettes. It appeared that teenagers avoid to buy cigarettes in big supermarkets as there salespersons strictly observe rules and ask to present documents. But in small mini-markets it was much easier for students to acquire cigarettes: many salespersons of such markets either offered teenagers to wait till other buyers will not leave market and have sold them cigarettes or asked to give money and receive cigarettes the more unnoticed as possible. Other students asked strange people to purchase cigarettes for them. And there was their on strategy: to address with request to persons, if possible, not elder than 25 years, avoid well-dressed people, people of middle age and women. Such state of things requires intervention from part of law; consider scientists - i.e., introduction on entire territory of the country responsibility for buying tobacco products for minors. From 2011 such responsibility is introduced in Scotland. Possibly, if this measure will appear to be effective fulfillment of teenager's request - buying one pack of cigarettes person will have to pay big penalty or be arrested. |
